A Guide To Self Employment

You know the best thing that has happened to me since I became self employed? I have been the "Employee of the Month"...every month. I also got the "Best Boss" award from my team of.........me.

Ahh, the joy of a one-person company.

When I started self employment a few years ago, I didn't really plan for it. I kinda got pulled into it and went with the flow. I made several mistakes; but also learnt from them. Looking back, I wish I had taken a planned approach. Nevertheless, I have been and still am enjoying the ride. I don't plan to go back to work for anyone else ever again.

I was really surprised that, even in this age of information overload, it's still hard to find one single reliable source of information on this subject. There are some good books and websites; but they only offer information in silos. I haven't found one that offers an all-encompassing source of information. So I decided to build one, a combination of a book and a website, based on my own experience and enrich it with inputs from other solo-preneurs like me.

My eBook "A Guide to Self Employment: Path To Professional freedom" is my first attempt towards that goal. It covers all aspects of self employment, from start to end:

  • The Good: Discusses the benefits of self employment and why so many folks are becoming solo-preneurs.
  • The Bad: outlines the risks of going on your own and what you can do about it.
  • Plan: Helps you decide whether it's the right path for you, and if it's the right time.
  • Prepare: Takes you through the steps of financial planning to insurances to taxes, to name a few.
  • Launch: From deciding the right business structure to the appropriate Legal steps to setup your business.
  • Market: Defines a strategy on how to implement a winning marketing plan.
  • Operate: Describes tools and resources to run your business like a well-oiled machine.
  • Retire: Explains the available options such as SEP and Solo 401K, and how they stack up against each other.

This website, in conjuction with the eBook, is intended to serve the self-employed or someone who aspires to be one. If you are one of them then WELCOME.

My goal is to provide a forum where you can find answers to any question you might have on how to go solo. You are encouraged to ask questions, leave comments or share your experience.

All the Best!!!
